The Indian Community School, Kuwait in collaboration with IDP IELTS, successfully organized a two-day professional development program for the teachers of the English Department on the 29th and 30th of March 2026. This meaningful initiative reflected a shared commitment to enriching teaching practices and empowering educators to better support students in their IELTS journey.
The sessions were led by Ms. Yvonne Van Zyl, Training Centre Manager, whose expertise and warmth created an atmosphere that was both intellectually stimulating and genuinely inspiring. Over the course of twelve thoughtfully designed hours, the training offered a harmonious blend of theory and hands-on practice, focusing on the four core skills assessed in IELTS—Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
Each module was carefully crafted to go beyond instruction and touch upon real classroom experiences. Teachers were guided through practical and effective strategies such as skimming and scanning techniques for reading, attentive listening and structured note-taking, organizing and expressing ideas clearly in writing, and nurturing fluency and confidence in speaking. The sessions were highly interactive, filled with demonstrations, reflective discussions, and guided activities that encouraged teachers to connect deeply with the content and with one another.
A particularly enriching aspect of the training was the use of authentic IELTS materials, allowing participants to step into the shoes of their students. This not only deepened their empathy but also strengthened their understanding of the challenges learners face. Collaborative discussions and peer feedback created a space where ideas were shared openly, experiences were valued, and collective growth was nurtured.
At the heart of the program was a strong emphasis on student-centered learning. Teachers were encouraged to thoughtfully adapt strategies to meet the diverse needs of their learners, ensuring that every student feels supported and inspired. Practical insights into time management, exam techniques, and effective lesson planning added immense value, making the sessions both relevant and immediately applicable.
The training concluded on a warm and celebratory note with the distribution of certificates to all participants—an acknowledgment not only of their active participation but also of their unwavering commitment to continuous learning and excellence in teaching; the event was gracefully brought to a close with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Maheshwari Ponnusamy, Head of the Department of English.
The experience was more than just a training program—it was a journey of growth, reflection, and renewed passion. It left the teachers feeling confident, motivated, and deeply inspired to guide their students toward success, not only in IELTS but in their broader language learning journey.
